Donate To Fire Victims

As many of you know, the California wildfires have forced many people to flee their homes and seek refuge, some of which have lost everything and have nothing left. The American Red Cross and other organizations are doing their part, but it's simply not enough.

During our previous club meeting, we proposed action to gather donations for those affected by the recent California wildfires. Donations include, but are not limited to: money, gift cards, clothes, non-perishable foods, etc. Anything you can think of will have a great effect to those who receive the donations. We ask that you all show your support in their time of need.

Collection boxes have been set in the Fire Technology Office (A-113). Any donations are greatly appreciated. If we do not find a specific family to give the donations to, we will offer them to the American Red Cross or any other organization in need of assistance.

Homecoming Cart

We are still designing one of the carts for Homecoming. Again, our theme is Hip-Hop as a music genre. The club has a budget of $50.00 (not derived from our $100.00 personal club budget) for purchasing any supplies needed for the cart.

Judging of all carts will be on Thursday, November 6 at around 10:00AM, but the "Homecoming Cart Action Committee" will be decorating our cart around 8:00AM. So far, there are only four members of the Committee, and the more help, the better.

If you would like to assist or join the Committee, please contact the Executive Board through our email address.

Update On Committees

Standing Committees

So far, we have established five of the six Standing Committees. All Standing Committees have openings for more Commitee Members. The Committee of Academics still needs to be established, meaning there is not Lieutenant for that Committee. If you are interested in joining a Committee or becoming the Lieutenant of the Committee of Academics, please contact the Executive Board through email.

Action Committees

We have established two Action Committees: Homecoming Cart Action Committee and Fire Prevention Week Action Committee. If you would like to join a Committee, please contact the Executive Board through email. Please view "Action Committees" for more information.

New Type Of Committee

The Executive Board has decided to split Committees into two types: Standing Commitees and Action Committees.

Standing Committees are the six normal Committees we have established (Committee of Academics, Committees of Personal Development, etc). Standing Committees will still be presided by Battaltion Chief Brown.

Action Committees are temporary Committees that work on specific goals of the club. For example, the club wants to have an event in the next two months. Anyone who is interested in participating would join an Action Committee. That Commiteee is responsible for the development and planning that event. They are entirely independent from interference from the Executive Board.

More information to be announced.

Thank You
-Executive Board

New Executive Board Member

We are pleased to announce the newest member of the Executive Board: [Captain] Katie Wexler. Captain Wexler is our new Publicist, meaning she'll be handling all the publicity and public relations between the club and the general public. She will also be assisting throughout many events regarding information distribution.

Participation Through Committees

Participation needs improvement.

The Fall 2008 semester is about halfway complete. Unfortunately, we, as a club, haven't done much. Not because we don't have enough resources, but the majority our club members are not taking initiative to become active.

The best way to participate, as a member of SACFTC, is through Committees. Joining a Committee allows members to collaborate with one another in order to benefit the entire club. You do not have to be present during club meetings to be part of Committees. Simply share ideas with your fellow Committee members and Committee Chair whenever you obtain the chance.

If you would like to join a Committee, or maybe even become a Committee Chair, contact us at our club email address.

We are not asking for help. We are looking for commitment to make SACFTC stronger, more active, and an overall great resource for all.

NOTE: We have changed the meeting location to Room A-128. Club meetings will most likely remain in Room A-128 until further notice. We apologize if this has caused any inconveniences, but the Board and club agreed (through majority vote) upon relocating.

Hope to see you all.

Fire Prevention Week

Our first event is currently in the making.

Fire Prevention Week will be either 2 or 3 days of relaying information to the public about fire and fire safety. The event will take place in front of the fountain (SAC campus) between undetermined times.

We will be giving trivia to random SAC students about fire safety. Those who answer questions correctly receive prizes, which are also undetermined. We will also be selling food (hotdogs). During our last meeting, one of our members suggested the possibility of donated food. We may also hold a drawing/raffle for a special prize.

We are aware that the official Fire Prevention Week has already passed, but due to SAC policies, our event has been pushed towards the end of October or beginning of November.

If anyone is interested in assisting in the planning of this event, please contact us through our club email. Be sure to attend our meetings to receive all information regarding the club.

Fire Prevention 1C

Santa Ana College offers a variety of Fire Officer classes, which are essential to further enhancing careers in the Fire Service. Although most officer classes are directed towards future engineers, captains, and chiefs, all are welcome to enroll in said classes.

The Fire Prevention 1C class, which is geared toward those entering the Fire Prevention field, has already passed this semester. However, there is a petition to host another Fire Prevention 1C class before the semester ends. A minimum of 20 signatures must be placed on the petition in order to pass. There are currently 10 signatures.

If you are interested in the Fire Prevention 1C class, speak to one of the clerks in the Fire Technology Department office. They will be glad to assist you.

Information From Meetings And Committees

Information From Meetings

All information derived from previous meetings shall be posted under "Information - Temporary" until Committees have been established. Once committees have been established, all information will be organized and filtered into their respective committees.

Secondary Meeting Places

Club meetings are scheduled in Room H-207. However, possible conflict with Chief Hirsch's time before her FT103 class resulted in secondary meeting places: Room A-128 and Room W-101. Club meetings will still take place on Tuesdays from 3:00PM to 3:30PM, but the meeting place will vary between the three rooms. It all depends on the availability of the rooms. We will make sure everyone understands which room we will be using for the club meeting of the corresponding week.

Hope to see you all next week at our first meeting.

New Executive Board Positions

To lighten the workload amongst the Board, we have opened three new positions: Publicist, Technician, and ICC Representative 3.

Publicst: Publicists are responsible for publicity and human relations. The publicist announces upcoming meetings and events to new and current club members through various medias, including flyers and email addresses.

Technician: Technicians have an affinity towards technology, most particularly computers. The technician assists the Board in organizing and planning by applying their knowledge of computers.

ICC Representative 3: ICC Representatives attend ICC, or Inter-Club Council, meetings. ICC is a group of club representatives that reports school and club activities. ICC requires at least one representative per club. However, there are bound to be cases in which a representative may not be able to attend the ICC meeting. As a fail-safe, we are offering a position as a third ICC Repreventative.

EDIT: THIRD ICC REPRESENTATIVE POSITION HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Information kept disclosed for reference.

*If you are interested in any of the new positions, please contact us at the club email address.

The Fall 2008 semester is just around the corner. However, the club will not hold meetings until the beginning of September due to policies of the college. During the first few weeks, the Executive Board will recruit members, plan activities throughout the semester, and more. We would like assistance from anyone and everyone. If you'd like to help, feel free to contact us at the club email.

We apologize if there has not been much activity from the Board during the summer session, as we are preoccupied with other and various entities.

Update On Club Status

Everything is in good order. Paperwork for the club has been completed and submitted to the Student Activities/Services office. Again, the club will not become official until the Fall 2008 semester. However, the Executive Board has unanimously agreed to take action as soon as possible. With effort from the entire club, we can plan and accomplish a multitude of goals before the semester starts.

If you would like to participate in our summer activities, please contact us (club Email address located near the bottom of the blog page). Please tell us your name and contact information (include phone numbers and Email addresses). The Executive Board will also be stating upcoming events, ideas, and other methods of contact through public announcements, courtesy of the SAC Fire Technology Department.

We have finally determined when, where, and at what time club meetings will be held.

Place: H-207
Date: Tuesdays
Time: 3:00PM - 3:30PM

We are still considering on how frequent club meetings will be. Most likely, they will happen once every week or once every other week. We are also considering informal meetings during the summer, as stated in an earlier post.

Third ICC Representative

The Executive Board is looking for a third ICC Representative. Two is the absolute minimum, but we would like three in order to allow rotation. This will prevent the absence of ICC meeting representation in the case of emergency or inability to attend by the representative of that week. If you would like the position, feel free to contact us through the club email address (contact information located near the bottom of the blog page).

Update On Affiliations

We have been doing extensive work in regards to affiliations. So far, we have found other organizations willing to collaborate with SACFTC. Those organizations would include the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), local hospitals, and some non-profit organizations. Other organizations are currently being discussed with.

Notes From The Executive Board

Just some quick notes:

1. SACFTC will not start until the Fall 2008 semester. This is due to the fact that the deadline for clubs/organizations has long past. To be honest, we haven't considered creating the club until the middle of the current semester.

2. Meeting place, dates, and times have not been identified. We have yet to speak with the fire technology department on what classrooms are available and on what days and times. We will notify you when they are determined.

3. Informal meetings are a possibility. There is high chance that we will have informal meetings during summer vacation. Although we will not be an official club at the time, we still have the opportunity to get things done.

4. All information is subject to change. Information and the status of the club may change under certain circumstances. We will notify you of said changes if they happen.
